Death of Emperor Nero
0068-06-09
Historical Overview
The death of Emperor Nero brought an end to the Julio-Claudian dynasty and plunged the Roman Empire into the chaos of the Year of the Four Emperors. Following a series of provincial rebellions and being declared a public enemy by the Senate, Nero fled Rome and committed suicide with the assistance of a secretary. His passing marked the end of a tyrannical rule characterized by extravagance, political repression, and the first persecution of Christians.
