About ExploreHistory
Rediscover the past. ExploreHistory is an interactive historical atlas that connects military engagements, voyages of discovery, and defining epochs of human history geographically and chronologically.
Our Mission
History is complex. Our goal is to make historical milestones accessible and understandable through interactive maps. Rather than dry timelines of years, we visualize geographical realities and the connections between conflicts, epochs, and explorers.
Data Sourcing & Curation
We rely on open repositories like Wikidata and Wikipedia. However, raw data often contains errors. Every entry on ExploreHistory undergoes a manual quality check where we verify geocoordinates, refine timeline events, and match records with reliable secondary sources.
Literature Integration
For almost every major event, we provide connections to historical literature, memoirs, and scholarly analyses. Users can easily dive deeper into specific events and purchase matching books directly through integrated literature recommendations.
Educational Value
ExploreHistory serves as a free educational resource for students, historians, and history enthusiasts. The visual map atlas helps grasp global historical connections (e.g., expansion corridors, border conflicts) intuitively in classrooms or self-study.
