Željava Airbase was a massive base right on the boder with what is now Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina. Hangars built under the mountains provided housing for up to 100 MiGs. It was destroyed by departing Yugoslav forces and the tunnels detonated and booby-trapped before it could be over-run and captured. The gate guards seem to have received the full fury of the advancing troops.
