Battle of Elli

The Naval Battle of Elli, 13 December 1912 (painted in 1913) by Vassileios Chatzis (1865-1915), from the Naval Museum of Greece, in Piraeus. It shows the cruiser Averof in front, with the three old battleships Hydra, Spetsai and Psara following, firing at the Ottoman vessels.

Historical Overview
The Battle of Elli or the Battle of the Dardanelles took place near the mouth of the Dardanelles on 16 December [O.S. 3 December] 1912 as part of the First Balkan War between the fleets of the Kingdom of Greece and the Ottoman Empire. It was the largest sea battle of the Balkan Wars.
