Thronbesteigung Königin Victorias
Historische Übersicht
Mit dem Tod ihres Onkels, König Wilhelm IV., bestieg die erst 18-jährige Victoria den britischen Thron. Ihre Thronbesteigung beendete die Personalunion zwischen Großbritannien und dem Königreich Hannover, da dort das Salische Gesetz die weibliche Thronfolge untersagte. Ihre anschließende, fast 64-jährige Herrschaft ging als „Victorianisches Zeitalter“ in die Geschichte ein – eine Epoche tiefgreifender industrieller, kultureller und politischer Veränderungen sowie der maximalen Expansion des British Empire.
