A widow brings her husband's sabre and sash to the pawnshop; he had probably fallen in the Austro-Prussian War of 1866. Prussia and its allies had defeated the German Confederation under the leadership of Austria.

Austrian propaganda before the war against Prussia in 1866, printed on a title page of a Czech-language humoristic magazine. The title says: What would these two give for having eyes in the back? (cs: Co by za to dali ti dva, kdyby teď měli v zadu oči?) The first boat represents Prussia (cs:Prusko) loaded with Schleswig-Holstein (cs:Šlesvicko-Holštýn), the second one Italy loaded with Venice (cs:Benátky). They are heading down the slope of war (cs: válka) and are going to break themselves over a stone - united forces of Austrian nations (cs: spojené síly národů rakouských).
